In Stratigraphy and Sedimentology students learn fundamental aspects of sedimentology through a Lake sediment coring project. During this process sediment (and sedimentary rock) description is key, as are the fundamental steps undertaken in a sedimentology lab (grain size analysis, smear slides, 1-2 mm grain counts). Students are also introduced to sedimentary structures, features of different depositional environments, facies analysis, and basin analysis.
