Kate participated in the NSF-funded ANDRILL SMS (Antarctic Drilling, Southern McMurdo Sound) project in Fall 2006. As part of the outreach work following her time in Antarctica, Kate worked with Middle School students at several Minnesota and Wisconsin schools to collect Lake sediment cores, as part of a parallel research project termed ALCOVE (ANDRILL Lake Coring Outreach Venture). Kate continues to work with St. Cloud students and some Middle and High School groups on lake sediment cores. Lake sediment coring forms a significant sedimentology in-class research project in AHS 423 (Sedimentation and Stratigraphy).
